Imaging Test
What are Imaging Tests?
Definition: Imaging tests create pictures or images of the inside of the body to help diagnose, monitor, and treat medical conditions. They provide visual insights into the structure and function of organs and tissues.
Examples:
- X-ray: Uses radiation to create images of the bones and internal organs.
- Computed Tomography Scan (or CT Scan): Uses X-rays to create detailed cross-sectional images of the body.
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging (or MRI Scan): Uses magnetic fields and radio waves to create detailed images of the organs and tissues.
- Ultrasound: Uses sound waves to create images of the inside of the body.
- Positron Emission Tomography Scan (or PET Scan): Uses a radioactive substance to look for disease in the body.
- Mammography: A specific type of X-ray test used to examine breast tissue.
